Word, word, words

Every day, Alexa is learning to say one or more new words, she is constantly repeating what she hears!

Her favorite word this past weekend was "Happy" and she used it ALL weekend, all the time.

She also likes "Peyton" (her cousin!) When we got into the car the other day, Alexa announced,
"Bye Peyton!" He was not at our house and we had not been talking about him, so Alexa must have just been thinking about him! He is really sweet with her and she likes him a lot. He is like her big brother.

Diaperless little girl

While JoElle was at VBS (at a church in Mansfield), Alexa and I got to spend time together, just the two of us!

I found her behind her rocking chair, grinning at me, a full diaper in her hands. I had no idea where the diaper had come from? She was wearing a dress, so I didn't think at first, but then, her mischevious grin gave it away.

I pulled up her dress and lo and behold, no diaper! She had managed to take it off somehow, without undoing the straps!

Since she had it off, I told her she needed to try to use the potty, and she did try.

Last night, I put her on the potty while she took a bath (I thought we were about to have an accident), and she went into the potty! She was excited and I clapped for her and cheered. It's hilarious when she "pushes" to try to go, you think she might hurt herself straining!

Alexa's Teeth

Alexa is 16 months old and she has almost all of her baby teeth.

Last week, the bottom right canine (3rd tooth from the front, the pointy ones) cut in as did the top right canine.

The left canines have not erupted yet, but one the top left, she has her two year old molars cutting in! They are trying to come through on all sides, top and bottom. She only has the last two canines to go, then her 2 year old molars, and she is done!

I am anxious for her teething to be over, she gets extremely irritable when teeth are trying to cut in. She cries and cries, for almost no reason, can't go to sleep easily, doesn't want to eat anything, gets angry about everything, and this is WITH teething gel and Tylenol!

Learning new words!

Alexa is learning to speak and sign new words almost daily!

Yesterday was the word "stinky" She LOVES this word, she thinks it's hilarious when we tell her her feet are stinky! So, last night, JoElle was eating cucumbers with vinegar and Tim told her her hands were STINKY! Alexa started saying it, really loudly- "STIIIINKY!"

It was so cute and hilarious, so of course she kept repeating it!

That morning, she also came to me, pointed at the box of Cheerios, and signed "eat!" to me.
I was excited and so was she. Alexa is signing "thank you" much of the time, without our prompting even, I am proud of her!

She is also saying "cup" almost right and will pick up her play cell phone, put it to her hear and say "Hallo? Hallo???"

Sweet Prayers

Several sweet prayers out of the mouth of babes:

JoElle: "Dear God, I love you so much, and I love the world that you made, in Jesus name I pray, Amen."

"Dear God, thank you for making Mommy pregnant with me and Alexa"

"Dear God, thank you for never giving up on us and forgive me for all of the mistakes I have made"

Her sweet heart brings tears to our eyes.

Blowing Kisses

Alexa picked up on blowing kisses, so now she loves to blow kisses! Sometimes she forgets to touch her mouth and instead touches her head to blow the kisses!

Last night, Alexa started saying "Uh oh" with Daddy, so of course, now she is finding a reason, even creating reasons, to use her new expression!

Alexa is doing really well with telling us "thank you"- we just really started the other day teaching her how to sign it, helping her put her hand in the right spot and then asking her to tell us thank you.

Tim worked with her like crazy the other night when he was eating chips, so she was catching on pretty fast and we were cheering for her. She LOVES it when we cheer, clap and all that, especially when Daddy does it! She starts to clap and say "YAY!" and a big grin lights up her entire face!

Last night, I gave her some food and asked her, "What do you say?" And she signed "THANK YOU!" and tried to say it too!

She is using the signs "more" and "please" quite a bit, she loves to say "night night" and sign it. Alexa really has gotten the hang of telling people hi, waving, and telling us bye, she now says "Bye bye" with a Texas drawl! hehe it is cute! When she is pushing her stroller around the house, she starts to wave at me and say "BYE BYE!"

The other day at a picnic, there was cottonwood flying around, Alexa started saying "Bubble" and signing bubble! She thought they were bubbles, so I just encouraged her!

She has been having a tough week this week. Her 11th tooth is cutting in (the pointy one on the bottom right, between her molar and her other teeth, is it an incisor? not sure) and she is crazy fussy, whiny and downright mean at times. She is yelling at me, will NOT lay down for a diaper change or to get her clothes on, she is throwing things, hitting me and and JoElle when she gets really upset.

Alexa listens extremely well to Daddy, not so much to me. She still obeys quite well for a 1 yr old, but she is challenging me and testing me and discipline does not seem to be working, she laughs when she gets in trouble, she thinks it is funny and is playing games. She has become quite playful and is having a harder time being serious (sounds like the problem we have had with JoElle!)

Alexa's first swim (that I can remember at least!)

On our way to the pool...

The girls and I had a lot of fun tonight at the indoor pool at the Y.
We had decided to go to a spray park, but it was closed, so instead we went to the pool.

I don't remember ever taking Alexa, this was her first time as far as I can remember!
As soon as we walked into the pool area, Alexa walked right over to the pool and tried to get in! JoElle had to hold her back while I set the towels down. They both loved it, it has been almost 2 years since I have taken JoElle, so she really didn't remember it. She can now walk in the water all the way to the rope, which separates the wade in/ shallow end with the lap pool. I can't believe how tall she is!

Alexa was brave, as always, and fell over onto her face numerous times, coughed a bit, then kept going! She loved to splash and walk along the side of the pool on the plastic part. She fell a few times, too, but I caught her. She won't let me hold her hand, she is extremely stubborn and independent....I used to think JoElle was stubborn, but she doesn't hold a candle to Alexa's stubborness!

JoElle is definitely ready to take swim lessons. She practiced going under the water (holding her nose) like Daddy had taught her on vacation in San Antonion.

Alexa did great, too! I told her to kick her legs while I was holding her, so she did, then she noticed that others were using her arms, so she did the same! She also laid back and put her head back in the water and let me hold her on her back. JoElle never would do this stuff when she was younger! She was always too scared...

The people at the Y had to chase us out of the pool at 7:45 p.m. and the whole way out people were oohing and ahhing at Alexa and JoElle, telling them how beautiful they are. It's always funny to me, they both take it in stride.
