J is for Jesus and jellyfish

We have been covering various names for Jesus, where He was born, things of that nature.

In addition, we are learning about jellyfish for the letter J.

Some basic facts:
1. The jellyfish has large tentacles that hang bellow its body.
2. The body and tentacles are made up of gelatin type material and that is how it got its name.
3. The jellyfish eat small fish, as well as other jellyfish.
4. A jellyfish moves itself easily through the ocean by shooting water from its bell shaped body.

More detailed info:

Jellyfish are marine invertebrates belonging to the Scyphozoan class. The body of an adult jellyfish is composed of a bell-shaped, jelly producing substance enclosing its internal structure, from which the creature's tentacles are suspended. Each tentacle is covered with stinging cells (cnidocytes) that can sting or kill other animals: most jellyfish use them to secure prey or as a defense mechanism. Others, such as Rhizostomae, do not have tentacles at all. To compensate for its lack of basic sensory organs and a brain, the jellyfish exploits its nervous system and rhopalia to perceive stimuli, such as light or odor, and orchestrate expedient responses. In its adult form, it is composed of 94–98% water and can be found in every ocean in the world. Most jellyfish are passive drifters that feed on small fish and zooplankton that become caught in their tentacles. Jellyfish have an incomplete digestive system, meaning that the same orifice is used for both food intake and waste expulsion. They are made up of a layer of epidermis, gastrodermis, and a thick layer called mesoglea that produces most of the jelly and separates the epidermis from the gastrodermis.
Their shape is not hydrodynamic, which makes them slow swimmers but this is little hindrance as they feed on plankton, needing only to drift slowly through the water. It is more important for them that their movements create a current where the water (which contains their food) is being forced within reach of their tentacles. They accomplish this by rhythmically opening and closing their bell-like body.
Since jellyfish do not biologically qualify as actual "fish", the term "jellyfish" is considered a misnomer by some, who instead employ the names "jellies" or "sea jellies". The name "jellyfish" is also often used to denote either Hydrozoa or the box jellyfish, Cubozoa. The class name Scyphozoa comes from the Greek word skyphos, denoting a kind of drinking cup and alluding to the cup shape of the animal.

Alexa telling me "mama baba!"

Alexa crawled into the kitchen today to find me, point at me, and exclaim loudly "Mama! Baba!"

Yep. She wanted a bottle. Rather than utilize her ability to sign "milk" she has decided she likes to tell me "baba" instead. Alexa loves to sign milk to Daddy though.

Alexa loves pointing at things. On Christmas Day, She pointed to Aunt Ana and said "Ana!" then crawled to her to pick her up! Also the past few days she has been looking at Daddy and lovingly saying "Dada..." so she is definitely associating words with people.

Also tonight Alexa started walking, taking many steps at one time as JoElle and Daddy cheered
"T C U" (because JoElle and Tim went to a TCU basketball game recently with Uncle Aaron and she loved being able to yell really loudly!)

Alexa still loves to clap; she also loves shaking her head at Tim or JoElle, esp if they just shook their head no. She looks so silly when she does this, like she is making herself dizzy!!

Alexa learned to use a straw

Alexa grabbed my drink as I struggled to carry her, my purse and my drink through the door. I figured she would just chew on it, but instead....

She started sipping my Coke! Hehe, she learned how to use a straw! She was happy to get some of this sugary liquid, much better than the normal repertoire of water and formula!

Immediately after the soda, she went crazy; she kept standing up and taking little steps as I cheered for her.

Reading books as a family

The last two nights, we have spent at least 30 minutes to an hour reading together as a family, the four of us.

Sometimes JoElle reads to us- she is learning so many words that she can read quite a few words in books. The rest she makes up from the pictures and the stories are very entertaining and often almost dead on with the real words!

Last night, Alexa woke up right after going to sleep because she wasn't feeling well, so JoElle entertained her by jumping and dancing around, then Tim went and grabbed books to read because the previous night, Alexa fell asleep on me while Daddy read books to JoElle.

Alexa listened to Daddy reading for a long time!

Both girls really like this new book we found at the library the other day about the human body, it has great pictures and informations about DNA, structure of blood, organs, bones, the cerebrum, etc. Tim and I are learning a lot, too :)

We also have some great Christmas books and a book called "You Are Brave" that JoElle enjoys reading.

JoElle is enduring time out right now...

JoElle is enduring excruciating but a much needed time out right now, in her bed. I warned her that if she continues to lie, she will go to her room to think it over. She decided that she needed to do this now rather than later.

These past few days, she has been lying quite a bit. She lies about insignificant things, for instance, she will ask me "Do I have more food on my plate?" as she covers up the plate. I will respond, perhaps saying no, would you like some more? She will lie and tell me "Yes, I have more" so I believe her and walk away, then I will notice or she will bring it to my attention that she was not being truthful.

It's really a stupid reason to lie and I don't understand it, but we have been talking about what lying is, why it's important not to lie, discussed the story "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" and talked about lying being sinful.

I can't remember the last time she has been sent to time out, it's been at least a year, maybe longer.

Just another demonstration of the struggle between flesh and spirit- "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" and this is exactly why we need Jesus to save us and the Holy Spirit in us to assist us daily, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day and year by year.

This is Alexa's Favorite Picture!

Alexa giggles in excitement every time she sees this picture!
Tandi has it up on her living room wall, too; Alexa was giggling at it with a huge grin!

JoElle singing in the Kid's Choir this Saturday...

Hi everyone :)

We wanted to invite you to our church's Christmas concert this Saturday, JoElle is singing in the kid's choir. We are back at First Baptist Euless again and loving it.

JoElle will be singing in the Kid's Choir at FBCE this Saturday, December 13th. We will be there at 5:00 so they kids can rehearse and so we can get a good seat close up :)

The Little Levites (JoElle's age- 3-5 year olds) will sing Christmas songs at 5:30; then she will join us to for the Christmas concert with the adult choir and other kid's choirs, Imagine Christmas, which starts at 6:00, here is some info, the church is hard to miss, it is right off of 183 and Industrial Blvd (Collins turns into Industrial if you take it North to 183).

We will be in one of the front sections, you can find us there :)

JoElle is very excited about singing! We hope to see you there.

Love,
Megan, Tim, JoElle and Alexa

Alexa learned a new word

Alexa learned to say "Nigh nigh" to tell me she is ready to go night night. I wasn't sure at first if this is what she was telling me, but then I asked her "Do you want to go night night?" and she waved her hand and repeated it again "nigh nigh." When I put her in her crib, she smiled.

She is happy that we are able to understand her much better now, through several signs and some verbal words as well. I am happy too!

Lately, when I have her on the changing table (something she has always HATED with a vengeance) she signs "all done" to me! I just laugh and tell her I know you are all done, but I am not finished changing you!!!

Alexa has been crawling around the house saying "Na na" a lot; I think she is saying Nana's name, Nana has been over quite a bit to help me out. The other day, JoElle and I joined Peyton and Aunt Ana at the Omni theatre to see an ocean film, and as soon as Nana came in the door, Alexa crawled to her and held her arms up for Nana to pick her up :)

She still loves to bop up and down to music and loves to wave hi and bye to people. Anytime Aaron or my mom gets their keys and put on their shoes, she starts waving at them, and normally starts saying "byebye" It's really cute watching this!!! Alexa also waves hi to the people on tv, esp Yo Gabba Gabba!

Review of writing letter E-H

We reviewed / practiced writing E, F, G, H and e, f, g, h on the whiteboard.

Also, JoElle wanted to do a monkey art project, so we used this monkey template:

JoElle's Bedtime Prayer Tonight

Today at Sunday School (at our "old" church, we are going to rejoine FBCE!!) JoElle learned how God made everything and they colored and put together a book as a reminder. She was very excited about this lesson.

So, tonight, when she prayed it went like this:

"Thank you God for making everything. Thank your for he made Daddy and Alexa. Thank you for he made the world. Thank you for he made the plants. In Jesus name, Amen!"

I probably forgot a few things she prayed for because I was holding back sweet tears of joy!

JoElle is a little confused about which church is "our" church. We have been to FBCE for two Sundays now, and I am trying to explain to her, gently, that this is where we will be going from now on, that this is our church again, it was our church where we dedicated her and where we attended when I was pregnant with her and before. We showed her the sanctuary today and I told her she can go to "Big Church" with us next Sunday, which is always exciting to her!
She loved all the Christmas decorations, the beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Alexa enjoyed them too, she leaned way back as Daddy held her so she could see up to the top of the tree! Her eyes were shining in amazement!

JoElle told me, "Mommy, I need to tell you a secret." So I bend down as she puts her hands over her ears and whispers in my ear, "Where is Tandi and Fred?" I laughed and told her they were probably at home today since they had Fred's family here all weekend since Thanksgiving. One more plus to going to FBCE for all of us, especially JoElle, is getting to see Tandi and Fred every Sunday! I know JoElle is especially excited about this!

JoElle was excited when we told her that we were going to Campo Verde, her fave restaurant because of the chips dotted with chili powder. But to get to Campo Verde, we have to pass "our church" as JoElle put it. Like I said, she is a bit confused. One reason she didn't want to switch churches is because she thought we could only go to Campo Verde if we go to that church. When I assured her over and over that we can actually go to Campo Verde if we go to FBCE, she seemed ok with it, but I had to keep reassuring her of this! It's funny how we associate certain places with other places.

At any rate, I am excited about all that our church has in store for our family! JoElle is already learning so much more than she was in her previous Sunday School class, it just wasn't age apporpriate for her. Alexa loves all the attention since her class is much much smaller. Tim and I look forward to joining the choir again after the holidays, I am excited to begin teaching ESL again, we are really loving our small group and the focus on marriage. Today at the small group table, the leaders were asking if we are just visiting again and Tim told him, well we used to attend church here for quite a while, and everyone else at the table said "Yeah we remember you guys!" It was funny! I know God is really blessing us by surrounding us with old friends who we know care about us. It is great to be back at a church where we feel connected. Praise God!

Alexa used a new sign today

Alexa signed "more" to me tonight. She kept asking for more oatmeal with cinnamon. At first, she was signing more by clapping softly, then I showed her again how to sign more (with your fingertips together) and she got it right!

She is getting excited that we are understanding her!

So, she is signing three words- all done, milk, and more
(I don't count waving bye bye or hi, that's a given!)

She loves to look out the back door; on Thanksgiving day, Daddy was mowing in the backyard, and she spotted him. She got excited when he waved at her!

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!

Alexa learned to clap!

Alexa mastered clapping today. Granny had been doing patty cake with her quite a bit, then after her 9 month checkup, when the dr asked if she is clapping yet, I realized, hey I haven't been doing this with her! It only took a couple of days for her to get the hang of it.

It was cute, the first day, she was trying to do it, but she wasn't turning her hands over, so she was hitting one hand on top of the other. It was so much fun to watch her practice!

Then the next day, she starting rolling her hands like we do during the song "roll 'em up, roll 'em up" Then, all of a sudden it just clicked, she started clapping her hands together!

Now, everytime she is clapping her hands and JoElle sees her doing it, JoElle encourages her and tells her "Yes Alexa, you are doing patty cake!" It is adorable! Her big sis is such a great encourager!

Also, she has become quite a thumb and finger sucker lately with her molars coming in....

Give Thanks to the Lord

Psalm 136:1-3 (New International Version)

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His love endures forever.

2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.

3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

Our Thanksgiving verse; also, we love the song "God is Good"

JoElle's Prayer

Tonight as we prayed, JoElle started off her prayer by whispering, "I love you God"
What a sweet, precious heart our little ones have, I see why Jesus told us to be like the little children in our love and adoration for Him!

What's Out There????

Alexa at 9 months

JoElle at 9 months

We love dressing up!

JoElle and Alexa both love dressing up!! Definitely divas in the making...

9 month checkup for Alexa

Alexa visited her doctor today for her 9 month checkup, here are her stats:
Alexa now weighs 20 lbs 12 oz (75 percentile for weight)
and she is 27 inches long (50 % or average on heighth.

She is wearing 12 month to 18 month clothes.
I don't remember posting her 6 month stats:
Alexa was 18 lbs 12 oz and was 26 inches long.

The doc confirmed that she is cutting all her molars now.
She also got her second dose of flu shot, they have to get two the first year.
Oh yeah, Alexa wasn't happy when the nurse laid her down, she gave her a bad look and started fussing. The nurse took her blood from one finger, she definitely did not like that at all! She instantly put her finger in her mouth and was trying to pull off the bandaid. She got it off by the time we got in the car.

Second sign learned

Alexa signed "milk" to me today. She had signed it a few times before, but didn't seem all that sure in what she was signing. But today, she was very definitive in telling me.

She is getting quite good at signing "all done" and she also tries to say it at the same time, it almost sounds like all done. She was saying "Mama" a lot today.

I think Alexa is still suffering from this stomach bug we all picked (for the second time in two weeks), she had nasty diapers yesterday and was still throwing up today. It is difficult to tell when she is vomitting versus spitting up, because she spits up daily at least 10 times and it is not just milk.

Alexa is growing attached to Daddy, she whines and cries for him in the morning and when he comes home. Tonight, both JoElle and Alexa rushed to Daddy at the door when he got home! It was really cute. He was holding both of them. Alexa was crying for him before he got home, she couldn't figure out why it was dark and he wasn't home. I called him and he talked to her on the phone, she smiled, then tried to look at the phone to see if she could see him.

Alexa is doing very well standing up on her own, without pulling up. She still loves t.v. especially Superwhy. She loves to bounce up and down to songs. She FINALLY mastered a sippy cup, I thought she would never learn how to do it, she was not interested, she wanted a regular cup only.

Of course, she is teething again. This time, it is two back molars and two of the canines. After these 8 come in, she will be done until her 2 yr old molars come in.

JoElle learned to write the letter "G" today and I also taught her the story about David and Goliath. We also talked about some other G words, God and gingerbread. She loves gingerbread! She loves God, too.

Oh yeah, last night she was singing "Yes Jesus named me Coats, yes Jesus named me Coats..." hehe it was cute!

JoElle has been taking good care of me lately with my back aching so badly. She likes to doctor me! Yesterday she was doctoring me and I told her she was a great dr, she told me she was being a Mommy, not a dr! How true, Mommy's are doctors too. Then I reminded her that Aunt Ana is a Mommy and a doctor, too :)

JoElle was also planning her "baby's" birthday party, it will be this Saturday at the mall. We will have cupcakes, we will buy some so we don't have to make them, and we will also make some so Alexa can eat them, without lactose. We will play some games, too.

Oh yeah, during this planning, she learned how to measure things around the house, including herself, using nonstandard measuring. She used a hollow plastic tube to measure herself, the counter, the balance beam, the playhouse. She saw this on Sid the Science Kid last week. It was a good idea, though, we enjoyed it.

Waving hi and bye and saying hi!

Alexa is waving hi to us all the time now, and to the t.v. and anything else she can think of! She is also saying "Hi!" when she is doing it.

She sometimes says "Mama" still, but mostly goes around saying "Dada" and "dada" for byebye, just slightly softer, while she waves.

She is signing milk sometimes and signs all done, but with only one hand instead of two. Today she started playing peekaboo with me all on her own by putting a blanket over her head! Also she likes to rock back and forth to play with me b/c I was looking around her at the t.v. today and she thought I was playing with her!

Alexa has such a great sense of humor, just like JoElle always has!

She still plows over anybody in her way, especially her sister. We can't get her to stop biting, she is finally a little bit better about not crying so much when she is getting a diaper change, but we are working on when we change her clothes.
She hated it when Daddy puts her in the car seat and she follows him around the house in the morning as he gets ready for work, trying to get him to pick her up!

Guess who took her first steps???

Yes! Alexa took her first two steps unassisted! (8 1/2 months old)

She really suprised us; she was bouncing all over the place tonight and we were looking at each other wondering why she had so much energy?

Then she pulled up on the couch (like always) but this time, when she let go, she took two steps to me!

It was great to see her face light up as we all cheered for her! JoElle and Tim were clapping so hard and were so excited for Alexa!

JoElle likes feeding Alexa bottles

JoElle has always loved to feed her sister bottles, even now, when Alexa feeds
herself bottles, JoElle still helps out!

Where was God born?

In the car today I told JoElle that Jesus was born in Bethlehem; so she wanted to know where God was born. I explained to her that God has been around forever and ever and ever...that he was not created by anyone or anything, but he created everything, including us. I also told her that God will be here forever and ever...that is called "eternity." She liked that word.

Earlier JoElle asked Tim and me how do you buy furniture? Tim told her you go to a furniture store. The next thing she was wondering is, "How do they scan it? Do they have a really big scanner?" hehe I couldn't stop laughing long enough to tell her they have a handheld scanner!

I love her questions, they always make me chuckle!

8th tooth

Alexa got her 8th tooth today, top 2nd to her right.
Next comes molars...

One more hug...

I have been following a special blog: http://www.mycharmingkids.net/
The woman who is writing her story just gave birth to her baby yesterday, he is a miracle baby, she was told at 20 weeks he would have severe heart problems and many other problems were diagnosed in utero. PRAISE GOD! He was born with no heart defects! Isn't God amazing?

As I was reading her latest blog post about holding her newborn son, Stellan, I was rocking my baby to sleep. She was sleeping so peacefully against my chest. What a beautiful sight! She is so precious, so sweet, so beautiful. As I read some other blogs of mom's struggles with losing their babies, it makes me remember what a blessing JoElle and Alexa are and I hug them one more time, kiss them one more time, hold them a little tighter, and praise God for such a precious gift, one more time.

Halloween Tea Party and Fall Festival

Miss Spider's Halloween Tea Party at

What a fun weekend we had

celebrating fall and Halloween!

JoElle and I had fun at Miss Spider's Halloween Tea Party with Madi, Peyton and Aunt Ana on Saturday.

Funny thing is that Miss Spider just so happened to be our friend Debbi from First Baptist Euless, we met her back in 2000 in Christianity 101 and then sang in the choir together! Don't you love God? Always bringing us back together with our dear ones.

At one point, JoElle was holding the cream for the tea and she looked to Peyton and inquired, "Would you like some cream, Peyton?" And he answered her so sweetly "Yes, please" it was adorable!

Madison ate the entire time :) She had a blast and was super cute in her Dooblebops costume. At the end, the kids marched in a Halloween parade outside in the dark, JoElle grabbed Madison's hand to make sure she didn't go in the street, she is such a mother hen!

Yummy Food

Alexa really eats like crazy; just this morning, she ate three of my handfuls of Cheerios- about 3 tablespoons, and only around 5 ended up on the floor; then she ate a TON of egg foo young. I made it for them this morning, something my dad used to make for me. I put fresh broccoli, carrots, green onions and water chestnuts in it. She loved it, but then again, I still have yet to find any food she does not like or won't eat!

JoElle even ate most of hers, even though she thinks carrots are yucky, But then last night JoElle ate a tong of baby carrots, she dipped then in balsamic vinaigrette.

Weekend fun

We had a great day today as a family; Tim and JoElle played soccer outside while Alexa and I cheered as she "scored" goals by kicking the ball through two trees. JoElle helped me to clean up the side of the deck by pulling up all the cannas and cutting down branches/ cottonwood branches and shoots that will not die :) Alexa helped Daddy push JoElle in her swing; Alexa was giggling crazily, she really enjoyed it! They also slid down the slide together.

Alexa eats so much, she can sit in her chair and eat food for at least an hour, if not more. She started signing "all done" and "milk" over the past few days.

Also, when I tell her "no comes los zapatos" rather than "don't eat the shoes", she listens. Alexa loves to book it to the kitchen, even if we are not in there. One day, JoElle and I blocked off the path to the kitchen, so Alexa crawled around screaming her head off! She was extremely upset with us, so we unblocked it, she was as happy as can be! Alexa crawls into the kitchen so that she can play with the fridge letters. She will play with the same thing / toy for 20-30 minutes at a time, all by herself. So very different from the way JoElle was (and is!).

Although Alexa's tummy is slimming down some with how active she is, she is still wearing 12-18 month old onesies, shirts and jeans, she can also wear 24 mo. shirts as well, and she is not even 8 months old yet :)

Ok back to today, we also went grocery shopping as a family, JoElle found a little cart and was excited to be able to push it around and put groceries in it. Alexa did well until the end, I had to hold her. A lot of customers were smiling at her and talking to her, like always :) She loves it! She really loves people, strangers and all (again, unlike JoElle, she never liked strangers much, except around 2 yrs old when she was yell "Hi!" to everyone at Wal-Mart or Kroger).

Right now, JoElle is with Daddy shopping for an air filter for the A/C and also he was planning to take her to the park to play.

Yesterday was a tough day for me, but the kids had some fun. We took them to Nagoya, a Japanese Hibachi grill by the mall. We have gone there once before; both of them love it, they eat a ton of veggies and rice. Alexa eats the entire time, then we have to just leave, because I think she would spend the entire day there eating! JoElle loves the fire, even though it scares her a bit. Our chef was asking what her name was, but she refused to tell him for a good 10 minutes, she finally told him, so he started called her Jo. She thought that was funny. Before he came out to cook, JoElle was singing all kinds of songs at the table very loudly, just enjoying herself! Daddy said Alexa got scared of the fire in the beginning (we were in the restroom) and she started crying, especially when the chef tried talking to her! so he had to hold her :) She loves Daddy!

Tooth Number 7...

So yesterday Alexa got tooth # 6 in, well today tooth #7 also came in! Number 7 is the bottom left, to finally match the bottom right she got in about a month ago!!

She has at least 4 more cutting in, you can see them bulging underneath her gums....

Thursday, October 16, 2008

Tooth Number 6

Alexa got her sixth tooth today, the top right one.

She has been fussy the last few days, especially yesterday evening and today and not very interested in bottles. Also, she has woken up the last three nights for one more bottle between 12-1 a.m., which is unusual for her.

Alexa has 4 or 5 more trying to come in right now......!!

We also had a playdate today with a little 3 month old girl named Shelby from our neighborhood. Alexa loved watching the baby and touching her, but she is not very gentle, so I had to watch her carefully.

We visited Rene at her house today, Alexa let Rene hold her and feed her tacos. JoElle played with Laura and tried to do flips on the floor, but it is wood, so she was scared to flip and hurt herself :)

Alexa said Dada!

Hey, guess what?Alexa started saying Dada today!

It was so cute, all of a sudden, she said in a cute little high pitched voice "Dada!" He was at work, but she saw him earlier, so she thought he was still here!!

She kept saying it over and over as she crawled around, like she was looking for him!!!

I called him and told him and he heard her say it!!!

She is almost 8 months old; just last night, Tim and I were talking about how she isn't talking yet, but she understands us very well.

Monday, October 13, 2008

Crib

We had to drop Alexa's crib down to the bottom level since she is standing up in her crib now! She is growing up so fast!

She is pulling up so well and so fast and is starting to walk along the furniture. Alexa can crawl so well, she normally prefers to not put her knees down, she gets around faster without her knees! It looks so cute!!!

Alexa loves to blow raspberries, especially at JoElle and JoElle's friend, Sierra (our neighboor). Alexa laughs at everything JoElle does, she loves to smile and laugh at us and anybody she sees. She is such a sweet baby; we love her so much!!!!!

Alexa still loves to eat, I have not found any food she won't eat! She has been feeding herself for several months now, she doesn't care much for mushy baby type food, she has been eating finger foods for these past few months. She got her pincher grip down about a month ago (thumb and pointer finger) . We are still trying to find a sippy cup she can use, she prefers to just drink out of a regular cup with no lid. The only problem is it can be messy (for me mostly, since it normally spills on me) and she can't do it alone without making a cold mess!

Baby Dedication

We dedicated Alexa today in a very special ceremony. It was a very precious time for our family.

Cooking Class and Alexa crawling like crazy....

JoElle and Peyton attended a trial cooking class at the Young Chef's Academy in Colleyville; they were the only two chefs, we left them and came back for them.

They both did awesome! They loved making Spatter Cookies, they measured, mixed and baked the cookies. They also assembled funny face pizzas, with ranch, cheese and veggies.

They were so excited to feed us their creations when we got back! Alexa and Madison also ate with them. They were so proud of what they had made!

As we left, JoElle wanted to know "Where is the teacher who is pregnant?" Several weeks before, we were supposed to have class, but the teacher was sick with morning sickness; JoElle remembered that :)

Tonight we had our Neighborhood Night Out; we met some neighbors we had not met before down the street and the JoElle played with Sierra and Landri; they had a blast chasing each other. JoElle is so grown up, I can't believe it!

Alexa is ALL over the place, she has been crawling since last Wednesday and also pulling up since then. She looks for me all the time, usually in the kitchen and she crawls to me. It is so precious, I love it! She is so excited that she can come find me and JoElle also now. She is pulling up really well and is walking alond the furniture.

One thing I can't get her to stop doing is biting me. She bites me all the time, I tell her no and she laughs at me.

Alexa is waving to everyone like crazy, she is also starting to sign milk and all done. I have been working with her a few weeks now, not all that consistently, but she is catching on fast.

Friday we went to story time at the library for JoElle; Alexa loved it as well, she hung on every word the teacher read and sang. JoElle got to make a squirrel hand puppet; she was so excited that she got to do a craft, too!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For weeks now, we have been adding things to JoElle's Christmas wish list. Did you know they start marketing for Christmas this early, in Aug and Sept even? She is hooked. My solution to "I want that, ooh I want that" was to have her compile a list. Also, I explained she can save up her allowance for things she really wants before Christmas (one baby she told me she couldn't wait until Christmas" so this is exactly what she did. We counted her money, she had $42 saved up!
She was able to buy the doll she wanted, a water baby that you give a bath to, AND she had enough money to buy a new stroller for her baby! She was very excited about this, and very patient, because we had her wait for almost a week to count it, when Daddy was off of work.
JoElle posting to our small group blog...
So the other day, while JoElle was playing on the computer, I came back to the computer a few hours later to find an e-mail from our small group:
,.xdczzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz222222222zw3wkkkk'][;kjk,lkiju fjjjkop'/jkoiiiouj dML'lkjujkiujrouih yp[yzsu wu
The funny thing was, it said "posted by Megan". Hmm, I didn't post that? JoElle did, hehe. All by herself, with typing included. I promptly sent out an e-mail to our group explaining. I think it's cute. Here is one response from someone in our group, Karen:
"Thanks for the explanation! I was thinking it was some secret code that I was suppose to decipher. Phew! I'm relieved!
Great Picture, it looks like Joellle but not for sure since can't see her pretty face!"
Guess what...
OK so I was excited that my little one was asleep by 8:30, I even got out of the house along and got to shop (for diapers...) alone!!!
But then....when I got home, the baby was awake with Tim :)
At least she was happy!
Then the baby went to bed, so peacefully, so sweet. Finally, at home, nobody is up, I can do whatever I want! So I start watching Leno, he is always funny, then Big Sister wakes up. What? What is she doing up? She runs into the bedroom, half asleep, maybe sleepwalking? to give me a present, two hearts with jewels on it and a princess figurine. Interesting, maybe she was dreaming of giving me a present? I put her back in the bed, she asks me to pat her (I never pat her anymore), so I did, everytime I tried to creep away, she was instantaneously awake, giving me hugs and kissses and not letting go of the hug.... finally, she's asleep again, more Leno.
She comes and finds me on the couch, "Mommy I'm not tired anymore" By this time it is 1:30 a.m. AHHHHH. So I give her some fries that Daddy picked up for her. She gobbled them down along with a cup of chocolate milk. Still, not sleepy, I put on something "boring." Usually if I put on something she will think is boring, she falls asleep, like the news or something safe (i.e. no adult content or foul language). I find myself drifting off to sleep. But wait, she is still awake? Why isn't this working? It's putting me to sleep :)
I tell her, keep your eyes closed baby. She responds "My body won't let my eyes stay closed" Hmmm. Now what? Ok, turn off the t.v. then, goodnight sweetie. I guess she drifted off b/c I know I sure did (on the couch with her). Hey, whatever sleep you can get.
It's amazing...
JoElle is asleep by 8:30 p.m. I can't believe! This is very rare... since I have been staying at home with the girls, JoElle might be asleep by 10-:30-11:30 p.m. Before, when she woke up early for daycare, she would be asleep around 9:30. But she was so tired from being busy today that she was asleep at 8:30!!!
Wow, it's amazing :)
Some things we did today:
up around 8:00, fed Alexa and played a bit, left the house around 9:00, tried to find the brand new Dunkin' Donuts in "Ft Worth", not listed on the Dunkin' Donut site for any in the DFW area, found on Yahoo! Yellow Pages one on Eastchase, in Ft. Worth, so figured it must be it, ok wrong, got there, not the right place, called 1411 on my cell, it's actually in WHITE SETTLEMENT, which is obviously NOT Ft. Worth, close to Ft. Worth yeah but not the same thing. I grew up within blocks of White Settlement but I grew up in FT WORTH not WHITE SETTLEMENT, argh !
Anyways, we then had to decide on another breakfast joint, we were close to N. Arlington, drove back towards our house and JoElle went back and forth, I-Hop, Mimi's, I-Hop, Mimi's, ok finally after being "threatened" by me to pick for her, stuck with Mimi's. It was great food as always, we were there forever, our waiter was very nice, found out he is from Serbia, his accent was familiar to me, I told him that one of my fave Italian places in Irving, the cook was from Serbia as well and had a similar accent. Alexa ate the ENTIRE time we were there (about an hour and a half), she at cheerios, crackers, and orange, my scrambled eggs, a piece of JoElle Mimi's Mouse pancakes (since their is regular milk and she is slightly lactose intolerant), one of my bfast potatoes which she then spit out into her cup of water, and countles bites of pot roast, oooh so good pot roast.
Alexa loved to stare at the host as he walked people to their tables, one time she fell backwards in her highchair b/c she followed him with her eyes and head until she rolled back :) She also giggled at the cool lights and the fan in the mirror.
Several patrons of Mimi's approached as to fawn over Alexa and JoElle, one very nice lady encouraged me with sweet words, telling me to hang in their and God is with me, I almost cried. It's funny how God likes to talk to us, really talk out loud to us, through complete strangers. Love it. Alexa also loved this person, she liked touching her shirt and smiling at her. Other complete strangers also talked to Alexa and she grinned at them.
We thought about walking around the pond, no stroller in the car, oops I told Tim to leave it in the garage rather than put it back in my trunk, my bad. So, we went to JoAnn's instead. Did you ever think about JoAnn's starts the same as JoElle? Well, we did.
It was ok for a few minutes, until Alexa started swinging her legs in the shopping cart and bonking her head behind her. So I carried her. She is really heavy. She is extremely heavy walking around JoAnn's while JoElle exclaims "LOOK MOMMY! ________ (fill in the blank as everything is exciting to her, especially arts and crafts items). I could see the turning in her brain as she considered all the possibilities. Her Christmas list just increased exponentially...
We finally found ABC cookie cutter. I say finally, I never actually looked for them, but I wanted them months ago. Oh well, I guess God knows how lazy I am, b/c He put them right in front of me, couldn't miss them, so we bought them. JoElle reminded me we weren't going to buy anything today. I informed her "guess I changed my mind huh?"
Alexa is almost screaming, her teeth are killing her, she has 3 coming in at the same time, 5 already. She is gnawing on the baby doll I am holding for her. Poor nose. The line is crazy long, I have never seen such a long line for JoAnn's? I don't go that often. Some lady asked me if I was in line, well duh, why else would I be standing in line? Did I mention the million questions all morning long in the car from JoElle? By this point, I had institued a "no more question right now" rule. Wasn't going so well, she kept asking and I kept answering.
Almost as soon as we leave JoAnn's, Alexa is knocked out in her car seat. So, I start to drive home, tell JoElle "ok no more talking! time to rest and listen to music" that lasted for 3 minutes before JoElle reminded me that we were supposed to go to a car wash after Mimi's. Oh yeah, I forgot, what else is knew? So we tried to, but the place told me their internet was down, did I have any cash? Nope, just used it up at JoAnn's. Didn't offer me a free one, just looked at me like I was lying. So, I asked, how do I get out of here? I told the dude I can't really back up that far..., he finally lets me out, what no free car wash? I am not going back there. So I tell JoElle, I think I know where another one is, let's go. We found it after JoElle pointed out each and every car wash at each and every gas station. I liked this one better anyways, they actually wipe your car down with towels afterwards. Oh yeah, we also went to the bank before Mimi's, forgot about that till now, thought about it b/c I gave JoElle her allowance plus an extra dollar, had to borrow a dollar from JoElle to tip the guy wiping my car down. Alexa woke up during the car wash and screamed the rest of the time, she was really scared :( poor baby.
I think we went home afterwards, we watered plants, guess what? Two of our pumpkin seeds sprouted today! How great!!! We also watered the back and rearranged the furniture in the back, not sure why, just felt like it.
Alexa is crawling like crazy, she crawled all the way from the t.v. in the living room, across the living room, into the kitchen to come to me!!! I love it!
We did some more playing, JoElle ran around the yard countless times while Alexa watched, laughed, did some more eating, JoElle took 2 baths or so today, rode her bike around the block while I pushed Alexa, racing most of the way, we also played in her room, JoElle learned to read the word "Avenues" which is on a book I have left from when I taught 1st grade, also read some more words and read about different types of homes like apartments, adobe home, mobile home, etc etc. JoElle was yawning like crazy, time to go to bed!
Whew. Free! I went to Target for diapers. I can't remember the last time I went to the store by myself? It was so nice!!!
Alexa is adorable!
Isn't she adorable? Alexa was laughing at me and Tim. She is all about Mommy right now and has been for the past few months. Guess what? Sunday she crawled to me! She also crawled to Tim. What a wonderful feeling when your precious one is finally successful at crawling towards you and you are able to pick her up and give her a huge hug and shout joyfully for her! Both of the girls thrive on praise; so we shower them with praise as much as we can.
Alexa gets her 4th tooth! (Correction: and 5th tooth as well, the same day!)
While we have been waiting for her 4th tooth to break through on the top (her top left), instead a new one popped in today, the bottom right, next to the first one on the bottom! So, Alexa now has 4 teeth, but not in the order we expected!
So, right now she is cutting in the top right and the bottom second on her left. Considering that she had 4 teeth trying to come in at the same time, she is doing quite well! She is a little bit fussy, but it's not too horrible at the moment. Now she has 4 teeth in with two on the way......
Correction: Alexa ALSO got her fifth tooth the same day that her fourth one (the third one on the bottom) came in unexpectedly!) So, Alexa did get the top left front tooth as well today!!
I can't believe she got two teeth the same day, how crazy, considering that she was cutting in two teeth the same day, she was not so bad after all! She was crying out in pain when we went to eat at Applebee's with Granny and she would not let me put her down, not even in a shopping cart at Mardel's, I had to hold her through the entire store.
She did let Granny play with her, feed her and hold her later that afternoon, though!
Memory verse: Psalm 46:10
This is our memory verse for the past week and this week, corresponding to learning the letter B
Psalm 46:10
"Be still and know that I am God"
Letter B
We have been "working on" the letter B for several weeks- not that it takes JoElle that long to learn it, that took a few minutes, I just had too much going on with me. But today we finally learned to write B and b.
Some things covered today:
-practicing writing JoElle, the last e is a challenge for her
-writing B and b
-discussing the difference between b and d: b is a line then a circle, d is a circle then a line
-read the word "birthday" and the two words that comprise the word "birth" and "day"
- JoElle traced the B's and b's, then colored the B and b and the bee
- B makes the "buh" sound
This only takes us 10-15 minutes at the most.
Alexa lately: 6 1/2 months old
Lately Alexa has started to whimper for me. If anyone else is holding her, even Daddy, and she sees me somewhere or walk by her or through the room, she whines. It's cute and funny.
She also whines for whatever she wants. For instance, if she wants a drink of what you are drinking or a bite of your food, she whimpers like a little puppy!
Alexa still calms down when we turn the "Backyardigans" on t.v. She loves that show! She likes to play in JoElle's room (which will one day be her room too, when she can walk and sleep in the toddler bed). We let her play with the Little People toys, like the bus and the kids that go with it. She loves playing in JoElle's room!
She is working on her pincher grip, using her thumb and her forefinger to pick up food. She is pretty close to mastering it. It sure does make it easier for her to feed herself! She is not interested in pureed baby food, the only thing she will eat that is even similar to baby food is organic brown rice cereal. She used to love pureed organinc zuchini, blueberries, bananas and sometimes carrots and parsnips. Now she would rather eat anything we are eating!
Recently, Alexa ate organic mac and cheese with me which I added ground beef and salsa too. It was a little spicy, but she doesn't mind! She didn't get much of a tummy ache (as far as we know, she is lactose intolerant like JoElle was and Daddy still is, she is still on lactose free formula), she had some gas, but nothing serious. Also lately, she ate Panda Express with JoElle and me, she ate Orange Chicken, which is quite spicy, and she was fine.
JoElle loves to eat spicy food, she asks to go pick up hot wings all the time, she loves them from Wingstop and she doesn't use ranch. She eats the original hot wings, which are quite hot! JoElle also likes to eat jalapenos and other peppers by themselves.
As for bedtime, JoElle does not want to sleep, she gave up naps right after she turned 1, it has always been a struggle since then to get her to bed by 9:00, even when she had to wake up to go to daycare when I was working. Now, we are lucky if she is in bed by 10, sometimes it is more like 11 or midnight. She has so much energy, she could go on 5-6 hours of sleep and be fine, no crankiness or anything. This is how I was when I was young, too. I remember being in elementary school, as young as Kindergarten, and staying up until 2-3 a.m. reading or watching t.v. while everyone else in the house slept, including my mom!
JoElle still wakes up by 8 a.m. or earlier, full of energy and ready for the day to begin! She is not cranky when she is tired, only when she is hungry does she get cranky, just like me :) Lately, we have found JoElle falls asleep best if she is laying with me or Daddy. She will typically fall right to sleep and then we can put her in her bed for the rest of the night, I think a lot of it is security, she feels safe next to us.
As for Alexa, she is a great sleeper really, she typically takes 2-3 naps a day, she is up around 8:30-9:00 a.m. and is ready for another nap by 10-10:30 a.m. She takes another nap in the afternoon, this time is not very predictable unless we are driving in the car, then she will surely sleep! Sometimes she takes another nap around 4-6 p.m., usually not very long, maybe an hour. As for bedtime, she gets fussy and fidgety somewhere around 8-9 p.m. and she will either fall asleep as I or Daddy holds her, or she won't stay still so I put her down in her crib awake, giver her a blanket and turn on her mobile, then rush out of the room before she can look back for me and start crying! This works really well, she usually grins really big when I put her in her bed and she loves blankets. She sometimes cries a little bit as she gets comfortable, then she will find her fingers to suck and turn onto her tummy and fall asleep.
Lately, she cries when I lay her down, so I start rubbing her side under her arms and she giggles like crazy instead of crying because she is so ticklish!! It is really cute.
So close to crawling and pulling up!
Alexa is so very close to crawling! She is constantly rocking back and forth on all fours, "crawling" backwards, and a few days ago, she started to put one knee forward, and at other times, but the other knew a little forward.
While on all fours, she also lifts her knees off of the ground like she is in some sort of plank yoga pose, then she starts to scoot her hand back towards her feet and she tries to stand up. Our only guess is that she is trying to pull up/ stand up on her own. Alexa is pretty good at holding on to her stationary activity center or the ottoman by herself.
She is so great at rolling every which way that last week she was literally all over the living room floor. She gravitates toward the t.v. (I found her under the t.v. armoire chewing on JoElle's Leap Frog computer cord, or to my dad's recliner. She can get back and forth around the room rather fast. What is extremely funny is when I turn Backyardigans on, as soon as she hears them singing their opening song, she stops whatever she is doing, twists, contorts, cranes her neck and arches her back, whatever it takes to see them! She also calms down when waiting for a bottle to be cleaned and made if we turn this on for her. JoElle loves to watch it too, it's a very cute show.
Alexa's 6 month checkup
Alexa now weighs 18 lbs 12 oz (90 percentile for weight, meaning she is bigger than 90 percent of girls her age) and is 26 inches long (which is 75 percentile for height.)
Her head remains consistently small at 25 percentile. She got a sleuth of shots, as always, she cried a lot when the nurse was sticking her, 3 injections plus one oral vaccine. But this time, when I picked her up, she immediately stopped crying! Overall, Alexa is doing great!
She mostly wears 12-18 month old clothes :) Alexa is a pretty good eater, she enjoys the food that I make her, such as organic blueberries, papaya, zuchini; but even more so, she loves table food! She is happy with anything she can get her hands on, literally. One of her favorite things to eat is paper, such as JoElle's artwork, computer paper, envelopes and mail, oh yeah can't forget receipts! Alexa has my receipts in her mouth just as soon as they hand them to me at any store. The other day at McDonald's, Alexa was chomping away at the receipt and the person working there pointed out that she was eating the receipt, I responded with a polite, yes I know, she likes to eat paper. The lady looked at me as if I were a little strange, all the while I am thinking how strange she is, who cares if she eats the receipt anyways? More fiber I've heard.
Alexa loves to chomp on bread, chips, fries, she ate black-eyed peas recently, can't forget bananas, she enjoys the crust of pizza, we let her have some chocolate birthday cake from JoElle's birthday party for her baby and her girl monster (one of her imaginary friends). Last week, she ate Orange Chicken from Panda Express, even though it is a bit spicy!
Several posts...
August 28, 2008 Alexa's 6 month checkup
Alexa now weighs 18lbs 12 oz (90 percentile for weight) and is 26 inches long (75 percentil for heighth). Her head remains consistently small at 256 percentile. She got a sleuth of shots; she is doing great!
August 31, 2008 Alexa learned to wave bye-bye!
Week of August 18th- JoElle learned to spell her name
I finally have the time, energry and patience to really teach JoElle- so I decided to teach her how to spell her name (out loud). She has recognized her name in writing for the past two years or so, it only took a few days for her to learn to spell it. She is also learning how to spell Alexa's name.
JoElle loves to watch Superwhy on t.v., we watch it together and learn different letters, words, and sounds the letters make. It is really great for learning how to read. She also enjoys the PBS Sprout website- she is on it at least twice a day playing (i.e. learning). She is getting to be a pro at the internet and computer. She can pull up Internet Explorer, minimize and mazimize screens, go back to previous pages, X out of windows, pull up her blog, my blog and PBS Sprout's site, move the icons around on our desktop, pull up and type in Word and Excel, pull up and paint using the Paint program, type her password for her e-mail address sign-in, pull up Christian videos on You Tube..and much more!!
August 24, 2005 Alexa is 6 months old - rolling to her tummy
Alexa learned a lot today! She learned to roll from her back to her tummy (she was trying to get closer to her sister!)
Also, she started rocking back and forth on all fours- she is close to crawling! Uh oh, we are in for some trouble soon- there's so much for her to get into!!!
One last thing- Alexa started blowing raspberries with all her drool (she is teething again- the top twop front teeth are trying to come in).
August 24, 2005
We all went to church together since JoElle was asking to go to big church and Alexa is super fussy with everyone else this week from teething. We participated in big church in the cry room and Nana joined us.
April 22, 2008 Alexa's 8 week (2 month) check up
8 week checkup- Alexa weighed 11 lbs 2 oz and was 24 inches long - 75% for both height and weight; her head is tiny, 25 percentile- she has gained almost 4 lbs since birth and grown 4 inches!
JoElle at 8 weeks was 11 lbs 9 oz and 23.5 inches- but she started out bigger- 9 lbs and 20.25 at birth compared to Alexa's 7 lbs 5 oz and 19 inches at birth!
August 3 rd, 2008 Alexa: 5 months
Alexa finally learned how to sit up on her own, unassisted! Also, she has really discovered and can reach her feet. She loves to smile at us and show of her cute pearly teeth! She also loves to talk really loudly, giggle at JoElle and anyone else who is silly in front of her!
July 19, 2008 - Alexa is almost 5 months old
Alexa's first tooth, the bottom left, popped in today! Then, two days later, her next teeth popped through her gums, the bottom right. She also ate pureed blueberries for the first time and loves them!
6-15-05 Father's Day
Happy Father's Day to Daddy- from JoElle, Alexa and Megan We love you :)
Alexa started rolling onto her side from her back today; she loves to pull her legs up to her chest, too. Alexa is very interested in the t.v. - she loves to watch certain programs such as the Wiggles, football games, basketball games, and some other action-packed shows. She would rather we put her down on the floor or in her swing or bouncer to watch t.v. than to hold her.
Alexa loves to "talk" to Daddy and to objects, like the t.v. She loves her Daddy!
Several posts...
May 25th, 2008 JoElle loves her swing set
Uncle Aaron got JoElle's swingset put together all the way yesterday and JoElle loves to swing on it! Alexa and I also swinged (Is that a word?) together on it. We finally have some shade in our backyard this year (it's been almost 6 years since we built our house). We are going to buy a baby swing to attach to the swingset as well so Alexa can also swing, not that she is able to support her head so well. At Aunt Ana's house for Memorial Day, I put Alexa in their baby swing outside and she did fine. Don't know if she liked it, but hey she didn't cry!
JoElle is doing great eating milk products now, she eats ice cream, pudding, cheese at school, pizza, and I even let her drink Starbucks coffee with me and none of these makes her sick! I am excited about this, and so is she! She could probably drink regular milk now, but we still give her Lactose Free, since she drinks so much of it, it's probably best to stick with it for now.
5/23/08 Alexa is 13 weeks - 3 months and 1 week
I gave Alexa a bottle of Lactose Free Similac today; we are trying to switch her over to see if she can handle it. We need to have her switched over to this in order to start feeding her food. When we gave her rice cereal in her bottle at 9 weeks to help reduce the spit up, it made her sick to her stomach, so I am hoping it goes better this time. She seems to be really sensitive to foods / milk. This first bottle seemed ok at first, then she was fussy the next day, so I am thinking it bothers her a little. We backed off for a few days, then started giving her the Lactose Free formula again on Monday night (the 26th) and two bottle a day for the next two days. She is doing fine, so we will probably start sending a few to school with her, until she is totally switched over.
She is still having normal BM's, so that is good. She is not fussy or gassy, so that is good. At school on the 27th (Tuesday) she ate up all 4 bottles of 7 ounces that I had sent, they had to ration her milk b/c she was wanting to eat every 2 hours! So we are going to start sending 5 bottles, just in case.
Alexa is still sleeping through the night. She normally goes to sleep for the night around 8-8:30, then I wake her up around 7:00 a.m. I am not sure how long she would sleep if I didn't have to wake her to go to school! Last weekend, she woke up Saturday and Sunday night to eat, she was especially hungry. She is eating more in the day too, so I guess she is going through a little growth spurt.
I started giving her allergy medication last week 5/11/08 (Zyrtec) because she was waking up every morning congested and was sneezing a ton during the day. It seems to be helping her quite a bit. Nobody would give me her dosage (her dr, the pharmacist) because theFDA does not approve of giving OTC to kids under 2. They all tried to tell me she is too young to have allergies, but I told them JoElle had allergies at this age and so did I, so I don't care what they say, I am giving it to her anyways! I don't think the government she tell us what we can/ can't give our children as far as medication is concerned. I don't have a problem telling her dr that I am giving it to her, along with the fact that she sleeps on her tummy, also a no-no in their books. I did finally get the dosage from my sis, isn't it great to have dr's in the family?
May 21st, 2008
JoElle's favorite dinosaur is TRex- the blue one (the one in her class is blue). They learned about dinosaurs all week, ate dinosaur eggs, and hate a whole lot of fun with dino's.
Ms. Trina informed me that Channing, Logan and Sandra all fight over JoElle. They call her "MY JoElle" and Ms. Trina tells them that JoElle is not their JoElle, but is her mommy's, daddy's and Alexa's JoElle.
JoElle is the most popular kid in her class but she still doesn't realize it. They all fight to play with her and sit with her, it is really funny. There is a new girl in the class named Tiffany, who is Asian and is still learning English. She sits next to JoElle on the rug for circle time. She thinks JoElle is hilarious and goes around saying "JoJo funny!!" She already picked up on calling JoElle JoJo b/c of Logan being in their now and calling her that!
May 20, 2008 Alexa is trying to sit up- 3 months
Alexa is trying really hard to sit up. When she is being held, she will lean forward so that she is sitting up straight. When we sit her on the floor without support, she can sit for a few seconds before toppling over!! She is also getting very good at getting and keeping her hand/fingers in her mouth. She loves to suck on them!
Alexa also like to play with a few toys now, she likes her starfish that JoElle also loved when she was a baby, ahnd she likes to chew on her burp clothes. Alexa loves to watch t.v. She was watching basketball with Daddy. She gets bored when commercials come on, but when the game is back on, she watches again!
May 19, 2008 Tandi is now JoElle's teacher!
Tandi started working at JoElle's school, she is now JoElle's teacher! JoElle was counting down the days until Tandi would be there. She is excited to have Tandi there, but she has been mischevious this week. She has gotten into trouble almost every day this week for mostly not listening. Some days she even told the teachers she didn't want to listen. She is having a hard time being serious and loves to make all of her friends laugh. At home we are also having a problem with JoElle getting a huge attitude with us and giving us a not very nice look along with a lot of crying. We are now sending her to her room when she acts like this, but it is her choice when she comes out, as long as she can act appropriately.
I have been reinforcing that not listening to us and her teachers makes God unhappy. This helps her quite a bit on why she needs to listen. When she does a good job listening, she is proud of herself and also asks me "Did I make God happy?"
JoElle loves to pray, when she hurts herself she will tell me and the ask "Can we pray for my booboo?" Then we will pray together. She normally asks if I will pray for her booboo again within 10 minutes, so we normally pray for her booboo's to get better at least twice! It is very precious time with her.
5/16/08 Alexa is 12 weeks old- likes to talk and suck on her fingers!
Alexa has finally mastered getting her hand and fingers in her mouth to suck on them, all by herself. She loves to suck on her fingers.
Alexa also oves to talk to us (and inanimate objects) Tim got her to say "Dada" several times! She loves to giggle at Daddy and talk to him. She has a cute little voice. Alexa loves to watch everything going on around her and does not like it at all if you hold her to you where she can't see everything.
Alexa loves to scoot around on her back. At school, on the playmat, she starts out at one end and scoots herself to the other end on her back. She is really strong; her teachers have to watch her because in the swings, she can kick herself out of the straps and out of the swing. She will not sleep in her crib at school (since they are not allowed to let her sleep on her stomach) so she mostly sleeps in the swings. Now she will sleep in her swing at home too since she has gotten used to it as school.
Alexa is their loudest crier and the youngest. She usually gets fed first because she cries the loudest! She also eats more than all the other babies. The only other little girl who eats as much as Alexa is Hannah who is 7 months old. They both eat 6 ounces at a time. Alexa is pretty much up to 7 ounces at a time, she eats about 6 bottles a day with 7 ounces, for a total of 42 ounces. She needs to start eating cereal soon, the doctor fussed at us with JoElle when JoElle was this age because according to the docs, babies are only supposed to drink a certain amount of formula a day, somewhere around 32-36 ounces, can't remember how much?
Alexa takes mostly little cat naps at school, for 30-45 minutes at a time. This week, she has wanted her teachers to hold her a lot (which they can't because they now have 7 babies in there, with 2 teachers).
4/29/08 Alexa is 9 weeks old- started day care
Alexa started daycare today, I started back to work. On Sunday, I cried a lot and was depressed. I really did not want to leave her and go back to work. It was much harder this time around with Alexa than it was with JoElle. JoElle was a tough baby, very demanding, cried a lot, wanted me to keep her busy all the time even though she couldn't play yet. Alexa is not really like that, she can be demanding, but calms down fast and can entertain herself for up to 30 or 45 minutes at a time. She loves her bouncer and I can have her in there for 2 cycles of the music!
Alexa did fine her first day of school. She loves to smile at her teachers, Ms. Billie and Ms. Alfie. She ate well and slept well for them. JoElle, on the other hand, was crying alot and her teachers and the director had to take her down to see her sister several times the first day. JoElle wanted to make sure the baby was ok.
It takes forever to get two kids ready for school (especially since Alexa take 45 minutes to drink a bottle) and in and out of daycare in time to make it to work. It has been a real struggle.
April 25,2008 Alexa is 9 weeks old
Over this past week, Alexa has grown very attached to me. She wants me to hold her in the daytime to sleep; everytime I put her down she wakes right back up! Alexa is sleeping through the night most nights (she started this at 6 weeks, the other night she slept for 12 hours straight!)
When I leave the room, she cries (if she is awake), even if Daddy or big sis are in the room. It's funny! She looks around for me, especially if she hears my voice. I feel very special! This is very sweet. She is really loving smiling at me, Daddy, JoElle and almost anybody she likes! She also loves to coo. At the Little Gym this week, she loved watching the kids in JoElle's class doing gymnastics, she was laughing and cooing at them!
Alexa is spitting up so much, even with the formula switch and reflux meds. We are going to try cereal in her bottle to make the formula thicker, however, she is such a slow eater, it didn't work so well the first bottle, she only at .25 oz in 30 minutes (she normally drinks 6-7 oz now at night). We visisted Daddy at work and all his coworkers oohed and ahhed over her, Chris, Erica and Sandra all held her. She was hungry and when Sandra was holding her, I asked her "What's wrong, Alexa?" She immediately frowned, then started bawling with a horribly scrunched up sad face!! It was hilarious! While I burped her, she watched Daddy working in his office through the glass.
April 23, 2008 Cousin Elena turns 3 today
Happy Birthday Elena! We celebrated Elena's birthday with her today at her house, the kids had a blast playing together, as always. A huge storm came through and the girls were scared. Alexa was crying because it was so noisy and it was her bedtime, Granny tried to calm her down, but she needed Mommy!
4-11-08 7 weeks old cooing and grinning
Alexa has been cooing at us and grinning a lot, sometimes I look down at her to find out grinning at me with her precious grin! She has been sleeping most nights 7-9 hours each night. If she does wake up, it is normally just once and then she falls right back asleep.
She is eating a ton, she must be on a growth spurt; she is eating 5-7 ounces every 3-4 hours (except at night, when she sleeps all night). She is still spitting up a ton, so we might start putting rice cereal in her bottle to thicken it up like the dr suggested, since she is already taking reflux medicine and still spitting up a lot.
Alexa loves to take baths; she likes the water nice and warm. She always falls asleep taking a bath. JoElle loves to take a bath with her, Alexa in her tub inside of the big tub in their bathroom. JoElle likes to help me wash Alexa off with a washcloth and is always entertaining her!
Alexa also loves to sit in her bouncer. She sits in her bouncer when I take a bath/ shower and also at the dinner table. She never stops moving, every morning I either find Alexa in the right corner of her crib or she has rolled over onto her back. Alexa also loves her playmat. She can lay on it for 30 minutes or so. The tv often catches her eye and she watches the movement on the screen. In the car, she is staying awake for a while and looking around. Normally, when the car stops, she cries. Then, we we move, she stops crying!
Alexa has now been to her Sunday School class twice. She does great, just like we thought she would. Every time we go anywhere, people tell me how cute she is and marvel at how much hair she has. I am hearing all the time that she looks just like JoElle when she was a baby.
The other day I went grocery shopping with both girls by myself. There is really no room in a shopping cart with a baby and a 3 year old who no longer wants to walk, since the baby is in the shopping cart! So, JoElle was sitting in the cart, piling the groceries around herself. She was arranging them in a specific way, not really sure what her method was, but if I tried to change it, she would move it back. I had to hold Alexa the last 20 minutes or so, she spit up on me and the floor in the middle of the pizza aisle...so I had to push the cart and hold her at the same time, which is not exactly easy, but I stayed calm! JoElle was very well behaved.
JoElle loves to play dr with her dr kit. The other day, she had on a surgeon mask and she told me "I'm Dr. Atkins!" I thought it was hilarious because I didn't realize she knew my ob's name! I only took her twice b/c I didn't want to many questions from her about what happens at ob visits.
JoElle likes to sing "No one" by Alicia Keys; it is very cute listenening to her sing her heart out. She also started singing "It is Well" in the car with us the other day, it was so precious to hear her sing!
One day when we were praying with JoElle she prayed "For Uncle Billy to get better" She isn't exactly aware of what is going on, but she can tell there is something wrong. If you are reading this, please pray for Billy (Tim's brother) and his wife Carrie, their marriage and their kids.
JoElle loves to go to church, she loves her Sunday School class. They teach her so much. She loves to "read" her Bible. One night after eating dinner with Granny and Grandad, JoElle was reading her Bible in the car and she told me "I need quite to study"; I was cracking up. I am not sure if I wrote about this previously, but when we were planting our flowers recently, Alexa was staring up at the sky, so JoElle told her "Alexa, God made the sky!"
JoElle picks up on new words and phrases extremely fast. She is good at getting her tone of voice correct and imitates me and Tim well. She picked up "hey, you guys" from her teachers at school. As always, I have to be vigilent about what I say and what she hears on the radio and tv. When Alexa is sleeping, she tells us "Alexa is knocked out"
JoElle can now buckle herself up in her car seat by herself (sometimes a little help is needed on the last buckle). She has grown up tremendously over the past weeks. She is having a ball at the Little Gym, she now will participate the entire class and does not cry when it is time to go into class. She loves her new gymnastic outfits that have skirts attached.
Several posts...
April 4, 2008 Alexa is 6 weeks old- Slept through the night!!
Alexa started sleeping through the night (most nights)- anywhere from 6-12 hours each night! She slept 9 hours last night, it was wonderful to have her sleep so long!
April 2nd, 2008
This morning, Alexa was crying in her crib her "I need attention cry" and as soon as I entered the room, she immediately stopped crying! It was really cool how she calmed down as soon as she saw me! She did need to eat too, but wasn't frantic about it!
April 1, 2008
Alexa giggled at Daddy tonight.
This morning, Alexa was being a little fussy in her bouncer while I was putting in my contacts. She suddenly got real quiet, I looked over and JoElle had found her pacifier and put it into her mouth. JoElle was holding it in for her and had calmed her down enough for her to fall asleep!
I went to the dentist and Shirley (the dental assistant) held her while I got my teeth cleaned. Shirley got her to sleep for me. I forgot Alexa's bottle at home...ooops. She didn't have to eat, but she wanted to, instead she sucked on a pacifier for Shirley.
We also went to the DPS to renew my DL, Alexa slept the whole time there. Why doesn't she sleep at home/at night for me as well as she sleeps out in public??
That night, she was up from 2-4 a.m. She ate and didn't want to go to sleep. I finally put her down in her crib and took a bath, she cried a little, but it was only an "I'm bored" cry. She was still awake when I got out of the tub, so I picked her up to comfort her a little, then put her back down. I went to sleep, I guess she did too, I didn't hear her cry until 7:00 a.m.
3-29-08 JoElle loves to hold Alexa. She gets upset with me when Alexa starts to cry and I have to take her. JoElle tells me "Give Alexa back to me after you calm her down Mommy"
3-26-08 (5 weeks old) Alexa loves to smile! She has been smiling at us a lot lately
5 Weeks 3-27-08
Alexa learned how to roll over from her tummy to her back. She rolled again the next day, so it wan't just a fluke
March 26, 2008 Alexa is four weeks old
We have been so busy, the days fly by! Today, Tim took off and we ate On the Border with Alexa. She slept most of the time, until I got her up to feed her. She was trying to wake up, she couldn't even open her eyes! The waitress wanted her to wake up so she could see her.
Yesterday, Alexa and I did some shopping at Target for clothes for me and Tim. She slept the entire time.
Monday, Alexa and I went shopping at Mike's Garden Center to buy a rose bush, two bushes, and some ground cover for our front garden. I held her the whole time (the car seat is too heavy for me, I figured out last week it was giving me lower back pain) and dragged around a plant cart. She slept the entire time. See a pattern here??? hehe
For Easter, Alexa slept in until 10:00 until Granny and Grandad stopped by unexpectedly and rang the doorbell and woke her up.We had planned to go to church, but that didn't happen. We did go to Aunt Ana's house so JoElle could play with Peyton and Madison. Alexa pretty much slept most of the day!! JoElle and Peyton colored Easter eggs, JoElle mixed a few eggs in several cups of dye and made cool colors. The two of them had a ball hunting for eggs in the yard, Madison only picked up one, threw it back down, and wanted to swing instead! JoElle had a ton of eggs in her basket.
Alexa has settled in to somewhat of a schedule over the past few days:
9:00 a.m. Alexa wakes up and eats, we try to get JoElle out of the bed, she doesn't want to get up, Alexa stays awake a little while JoElle gets ready, hangs out in her car seat, bouncer or on the floor watching JoElle.
9:30-10:00 ish we leave to take JoElle to school (We used to leave earlier, but who wants to wake up a sleeping baby??????) Alexa stays awake for about 5 minutes in the car, JoElle tells me "Alexa is happy! She's awake!" Then she sleeps the rest of the time
10:15-10:30 I take Alexa in out of the car seat to JoElle's daycare. All of JoElle's friends want to see the baby (even though they have now seen her every day for the past 4 weeks...) Ethan wants to touch her, I tell him please don't touch her face, he does anyways, JoElle gets a little upset, Ethan tells JoElle not to touch the baby, I remind him that it is her sister... JoElle hugs and kisses the baby, I don't really get much of a hug
10:30-12:00 I run errands, go shopping, or come home and clean up the house a bit
12:00 Alexa wakes up to eat, then falls back asleep
12:30-2:30 maybe 3:30 Alexa sleeps in her crib ON HER TUMMY, yes I said on her tummy, she is sleeping quite beautifully now on her belly, just like JoElle did; nap time for me, or chill and watch t.v.
2:30-3:30 Alexa eats again, probably falls back to sleep, may stay up and play; I either get on the computer, watch Tyra Banks show, do clothes, sometimes nap, depends on the night before
4:30-5:00 We leave to get JoElle, again, Alexa stays up for a little bit in the car, then falls asleep, she typically opens her eyes for a brief moment at daycare, then falls back asleep.....
6:00 We get home, JoElle is normally whiny by this time because she is hungry, she is probably mad at me because I can't carry her, once I get some food into her, she is extremely happy, total Dr. Jekyll and Mrs. Hyde...
6:30 Time for Alexa to eat again
7:00-7:30 I give the girls baths
7:30-8:00 I put Alexa to bed in her crib
9:30-10:30 Alexa wakes up to eat, probably falls right back to sleep
12:30-1:30 Alexa wakes up to eat, probably stays up for about an hour
4:00 Time to eat again, I don't want to get up, I let her cry for a few minutes, see if Tim will get up, sometimes he does, sometimes he is too tired and since I am not working, I eventually get up to feed her, normally go sit on the couch and turn on t.v. while she eats. She might stay up for 1-2 hours, or she might go back to sleep, it's anbody's guess...
4:30-9:00 PRECIOUS SLEEP FOR THE ENTIRE HOUSE!!!!!! (except Tim has to wake up and go to work.....)
3-17-08 Happy St. Patricks' Day!
March 11, 2008 Happy Birthday Aunt Ana!
Today is my sister's birthday, Happy Birthday Ana!
March 9th, 2008 Happy Anniverasry Tim!
Tim and I have been married for 6 years, the time goes by so fast! I love you, Tim!
Uncle Aaron babysat both girls for us so we could eat out together. What a brave man! Especially with a fussy baby. This was the first time anybody has babysat Alexa. She did great with him, was fussy and had messy diapers, but he handled her AND JoElle, quite a feat! JoElle is very demanding of her uncle. Aaron even gave JoElle a bath, too! When we got home, Alexa was sleeping peacefully in his arms. Aaron found JoElle standing in her sick, naked, trying to wash her feet off..... you can't win them all, at least she didn't turn on the water and slip.
